Dmitri's Garden: Plans

Oct, 2003

A close friend has described me as a man of many plans. I do indeed have some. For instance, I plan on doing the following things in my lifetime:

  • Stay happily married. I've seen people pull this off; I know it's possible.
  • Raise 2 children, some animals, and some AIs.
  • Start a village.
  • Build a castle. Small scale, no slave labor here. And raise a garden.
  • Business ideas haunt me, and won't let me sleep at nights. I want to start every one of these businesses, or at least find hard evidence that they're impossible or impractical: gaming store, anime store, coffee shop, bookstore, linux training center (non-profit), and a ferry service. And maybe a bed-and-breakfast. Each one has a unique twist, each one wants to exist (but doesn't yet) -- if somebody starts them before I do, I'll be just as happy.
  • Run a MUD.
  • Run a BBS.
  • Web sites. About a dozen of them have come to me, wanting to be born, saying "We want to exist, but we don't, yet.". I think they'll leave me in peace, once I start them.
  • Travel. I want to visit, to know as intimately as I care to, most of Europe, some of the former Soviet Union, most of North America, as well as Japan and New Zealand. I want to disappear into these places for a good while. Ride trains aimlessly, walk the pilgrimage roads, and make friends. And sail. All of the Great Lakes. The Mississippi river, all the way down. The Intracoastal Waterway. Chesapeake bay. The Pacific Northwest (Seattle, etc). Much of the Carribean. Plus I hear Canada has some nice lakes...
  • Start a monastery.
  • Learn Tai Chi. And ballroom dancing. And mad breakfast-making skills.
  • Become at peace with my computer.
  • Create an agent-based operating system.
  • Sandbenders.
  • I doubt people believed me when I said that I want to be a rebel cult leader on Mars. But you know I do not joke about Mars. Now, I do not actually want to be a cult leader. Often. I do want to live long enough, however, to someday visit Mars. Just visit, and stand on it with my own two feet. The Moon will also do.
That's it. See? The list is finite. You have no idea how comforting that is to me. Also, I notice that many of my desires involve starting things. That's ok, though. I've come to terms with being an Aries.
